Supernatural Childbirth

The first time I heard about ‘Supernatural Childbirth’ was I was pregnant with Jeriel (end of 2003). It was a friend whom I met in the internet few years ago; also happen to be my friend’s sister-in-law. What a coincident.

What prompted me to this phrase ‘Supernatural Childbirth’ all sudden last night was when I received MMS from the same friend announcing the arrival of her beautiful second princess weighing more than 3kg yesterday PAINLESS and STITCHESS. Wow, what a miracle. She shared how she gave birth to her elder daughter painless in 2003 without any contraction pain.

Othniel and I were hunting for the book ‘Supernatural Childbirth’ by Jackie Mize and got the last book from Canaanland, Centrepoint Bandar Utama. Both of us read the book together. I photocopied the Prayers Section of the book to be used in the delivery room.

During my delivery, we tried to practice as much as I could with Othniel’s help. I did feel some pain (maybe not enough faith and with some fear) but it was not that bad as some people shared to me. However, I managed to go through consider quite fast delivery (went to the hospital in morning and delivered by noon) even though the nurses said I may need to wait for 1 whole day or longer. The pain was bearable (felt like backache) with occasionally using the laughing gas. Othniel would monitor the screen to check sign of the contraction and passed me the laughing gas just before the contraction. So, I didn’t use any epidural even though the nurses offered me. On that time, what was the main motivation to avoid epidural was save $$$.

Who is Jackie Mize (the author of ‘Supernatural Childbirth) ? Doctors told her that she cannot have children. If by some slim chance she was ever getting pregnant, she would have to spend the whole nine months on the bed. However, doctors have doubt that she could carry it for the whole duration. She accepted it as fate but her husband, Terry refused to accept it, instead choose to trust in God. They were blessed with 4 children – 2 boys and 2 girls.

All born miraculously full term without induction, fast delivery, without stitches, without complications and painless. Let me try my very best to summarize how fast the delivery and how heavy each baby was.

1st Baby (Boy)
- delivery period 3 hours 15 minutes
- 7 pounds 5 ounces (even though she was a gestation diabetic)
2nd Baby (Boy)
- delivery period 40 minutes
- 10 pounds (she was not a gestation diabetic)
3rd Baby (Girl)
- delivery period about 30 minutes
- 8 pounds 4 ounces
4th Baby (Girl)
- 9 pounds 5 ounces

One thing I learnt from this book is contraction is not labor pain but muscle contractions trying to expand to 10cm. Fear and insufficient knowledge would cause tense which eventually cause pain on the muscle to tense. When a muscle is tense, it would be painful when it is trying to open it to 10cm. The more knowledge, peace, relax and confidence we have, the easier the contractions would be.

It is a great challenge to put theory into practice. I myself were unable to practice it 100% unlike my friend who gave birth 2 times painless. Hope I can make it 100% on my next one.
