Mummy was thinking of sharing some of JL’s eating habit. Even though it was not perfect but we are still learning. The first part would be on junk food.
JL knew what junk food is. We always tell him that it is no good to take too much junk food and it is not healthy. For example, got problem to ‘em em’ (constipation), sore throat etc. When he has problem in toilet, he will said
“I think I didn’t drink enough water and I take too much junk food today, now I got ‘em em’ cannot come out”
There was one time when JL was doing grocery with KongKong and PohPoh when JL was pointing at someone’s trolley and said
‘KongKong, PohPoh, wow this trolley full of junk food!’
The person who was pushing the trolley and also KongKong and PohPoh were shocked.
Our apartment has not much junk food. Usually when JL is hungry he will help himself with raisins, prunes, yogurt, fruits, cornflakes and biscuits. As for biscuits, we have minimum stock of biscuits with cream. Cereal, JL will eat Cornflakes and Rice Krispies. Some people will asked Mummy how about outside someone give him those sweet cereal like honey stars? Well, it is not often so Mummy is ok once in a while as a treat for JL. As for sweets, we preferred the gummy type rather than the hard time.
We still give him some chocolates, ice- cream, chips etc but with limitation and with condition he has already taken his proper meal and brushed his teeth. So, JL will usually finish up his meal/milk before he requested to eat one sweet which is given by someone e.g. Sunday School Teacher.
Mummy told JL that when someone (he knows and with PaPa, Mummy, KongKong & PohPoh approval to avoid him taking food from strangers) give him any junk food, take and say ‘Thank you’. Then, later we will negotiate whether JL can take it or not.
One day after kindy, teacher gave JL a lollipop. He took and said thank you, then when JL and PohPoh was out of the kindy, JL passed it to PohPoh and said

“Mummy said ‘said thank you’ and then give it to PohPoh the junk food. Maybe eat later."
This really caught PohPoh a surprise.
So, JL has no problem drinking soup without salt and drinks like barley without sugar. Some how is taste bud has adapted to that taste.
He is still a kid and we do have ice-cream and chocolate together as a family at home. Even for jelly (JL loves jelly); PaPa will take time to make jelly together with JL at home so that it will not be too sweet.

wow, good job mommy. jeriel is so well trained not to take junk food. we don't eat as healthy as you. shame on me.
I am the junk food eater. However I let my hubby be the bad guy when it comes to controlling the children. I like Jeriel's remark on other ppl's trolley. Hehehehe
That's a really healthy eating habit. I oso try to limit junk food/sweets intake for XY but PaPa said 1 a day is not too much. :|
shern's mom
it is just a habit...can slowly change

My parents told him the remark..the whole family all laugh...

with a bit limit it is ok..
Jeriel is such a good boy, can wait till mummy allows him to take...thumb up...
Even Rachael now doesn't take plain water after milk...so we have to feed her with some chinese herbal tea mixed with little pinch of sugar (recommended by our confinement lady)...I don't know how will her taste bud becomes, when she's older...he he he...
martini
because we always keep promise what we give him..so it is trust...

try to slowly introduce water..anyway with breastmilk you do not have to worry about heaty
Chanel... you did train Jeriel towards healthy eating habits! Salute! I hope I can but sine young en en tastebud is heavy... she opts for more salty food and never compromise for plain water! Her daddy also like thaqt loves high fat, sweet chocolate and ice-cream! I guess I got to change this bad eating habit slowly and with more patient. Luckily en en dislike sweet stuff.
Thanks for sharing this post!
eh, u made me so guilty lar....
i didn't restrict mine as much as you & i think i've spoilt their taste bud, tsk tsk tsk...
anyway, there's always room for improvement...still not too late i hope !!
That's very good for Jeriel and you have done a good job, Chanel!
My girl loves junk food but we have been restricting her from eating too much.
I think co-operation from nanny/babysitter is very important too but too bad my nanny never think it's problem for child to eat junk food.
If Yee Ching has a good eating habit like Jeriel, she might not need Pediasure anymore.
