JL had exam before kindy holiday. Mummy couldn’t imagine a 4-year-old boy would be having exam. Can you all imagine this ???? Mummy was speechless. PaPa and Mummy decided just to take it easy. We told JL just try his best and no pressure. JL just did his homework and continue to do his routine like having fun watching TV.
We always tell JL as long he tried his very best, we would be proud of him.
Last Friday (20 June 2008), was Parents-Teachers Meeting. It was just a coincident that Mummy took off to run errands and PaPa’s service job ended on time for the meeting. We decided to bring JL along this time because we planned to go for a walk after the meeting. When JL came home from KongKong and PohPoh’s apartment to get ready to go out for the meeting, we notice a gift in JL’s bag. JL said that he got this gift from the stage. We thought it was a normal gift like Most Sticker Award, Super Character Award, etc.. JL sometimes do get gift form certain award since last year and sometimes he would come back and tell us he didn’t get any. We always assured him that he needed to accept that not always he would get the gift. Remember as long as he did his best, we would always be proud of him. JL soon got used to it.
While waiting for our turn to see JL’s teacher, we were given JL’s report card and his marked exam papers. Mummy didn’t believe what Mummy seen and passed to PaPa to reconfirm. Har…JL score full … It was hard to believe knowing it was hard to make him sit down to write and also we were the type of parents who didn’t care much as long as he finished up his homework, he would have his fun time. No extra coaching and would you believe that JL couldn’t even read unlike other kids who could read so well. He could recognize alphabets but sometimes he mixed up with mirror images like ‘b’ and ‘d’. So, this explained why he got that gift in this bag.

We asked JL whether he did all by himself and he nodded shyly. Looks like that night plan to go out would be an outing for JL. We took JL for a meal in Carl’s Junior which would be our 2nd time because it was too costly to go often. Then, JL had his walk around toys section. Mummy secretly bought JL a gift and got it wrapped. This special gift would be from baby to JL when JL visited baby in hospital. It was also a gift that JL wanted so much that PaPa said ok this time as a reward for him. JL had his ice-cream. We wanted to go for movie to redeem 2 tickets which JL won but it was full so we booked for the following day evening show.
JL was happy even it was a simple reward for him.
However, we told JL, besides having to do well in exams, the most important; he must be a good and well-mannered boy. It would be useless if he is smart but then he is rude and bad mannered boy. Besides that, we re-emphasis again, as long as he tried his best, we would always be proud of him. We hope he would not take this and pressure himself in the future exams. PaPa and Mummy wanted him to learn and have fun, not for the sake of learning for exam.
Education now is so challenging and Mummy is getting a bit worried with the current situation. Mummy hope God would help us on this. Hope JL would take up the challenge positively.
Do you parents face this concern too?

Yeah, everything also worry now that we have kids LOL... too much pressure, not enought pressure, too easy on them, too hard on them, and most of all these days too scared over their safety with all the crazy people in KL nowadays....
wah, so young got exams..
me too, in Spore, education is very stressful and I do hope my kids will go thru everything with mindset that it's fun, not stress.
Exams at 4 years old is really crazy. My 4 year old is still at home with me but I'm not really worried. I think we put too much pressure on the kids these days.
clever boy!
but it is really crazy to have exam for a 4yo kid la!
u did a great job! Well done Jeriel!
Jeriel did a great job, keep up the good work!
wow 4yo oredi exam :|....bravo bravo he did well
well done jeriel. U're right, as long as they're healthy & good mannered, everything else is just extra!
wow,exam somemore...what a kid's life today..
Bravo to Jeriel, smart boy indeed!
The important thing if of course to allow Jeriel to enjoy his childhood, just simply by being a child. Exams and all will be secondary.
But bravo to him for those excellent results.
Kid always surprise us!! Jona never study at home or do his revision at home with my supervision, because he just rejected our offer....but, last year, he is student of the year in his 4 yrs old class....ha,ha....I guess as long as they are happy during schooling, the absorption is much faster
