Mummy’s Daily Schedule

It took some time for Mummy to re-adjust the daily schedule and making sure all is done on time before KongKong and PohPoh arrived to fetch Jeriel and Ariel at 7.15am in the morning. And also make sure whatever can be done the night before to minimize things in the morning.

Here is Mummy’s task list without any sequence because depends on time and priority.

Usually in the morning, Mummy will wake up before 6am to settle a few things:

  • Pack all the sterilized bottles in a container to bring to KongKong and PohPoh’s apartment
  • Pack about 20oz EBM into 2 9oz Avent Bottles and keep in the fridge until KongKong and PohPoh leaving with the kids, then transfer to cooler bag (which we got it free when we got our notebook backpack via credit card points).
Mummy will thaw the frozen EBM in storage bag from last night in the fridge by putting all the storage bags soak in water in the fridge. If by midnight the frozen EBM is semi frozen, Mummy will transfer from storage bags to bottles and keep in the fridge to continue thawing it.If still hard frozen at midnight, then Mummy will only transfer to bottles in the early morning. Why transfer? So that PohPoh easier to pour and warm the EBM for Ariel. Mummy also provided PohPoh Electric Bottle Warmer to make warming EBM easier.

  • Do pumping using old faithful Spectra 2 (bought in 2004)
This time Mummy can do double pumping (unlike last time due to bad inverted, Mummy use as single to maximize the suction). Also, to save time, Mummy pump direct to storage bags. (will write in detail on the next post)
  • Direct feed Ariel
  • Wash the pumping accessories and leave in the sterilizer to sterilizer later after work with other pumping accessories from office pumping session. The part that not advisable to use steam sterilizer, Mummy clean with cleanser and keep in a container for next pumping session.
  • Pack pumping things for office pumping session (will write in detail on the next post)
  • Do morning drink for Mummy, PaPa and Jeriel
  • If PaPa around, he will help to bath and get Jeriel ready for kindy. If he is not around, Mummy had to wake up extra early and hope that Ariel will not make noise for milk while getting Jeriel ready.
  • Change Ariel’s diaper
After Jeriel and Ariel done, time for PaPa and Mummy to take bath and go to work.

How about evening after work?

  • Keep 4 storage bags (from office pumping session) and ice packs into the freezer. Yes, also pump direct to storage bags in office to save time of pouring and labeling the bags. Mummy used to pump into bottles and then go home and pour into storage bags. After pouring then clean and sterilize the bottles. Now, just pump direct to storage bags.
  • If Mummy miss the 2nd session pumping in the office, Mummy will then pump at home even though delay.
  • Put all the pumping accessories used in office into steam sterilizer and sterilized together with the ones used in the morning.
  • Do laundry (sorting clothes, load washing machine and keep laundry)
  • Do some packing for office pumping but not 100% because some can only be packed the next day.
  • Get ready Jeriel’s things for kindy like uniform, water tumbler and shoes
  • When Mummy get all the bottles Ariel used for the whole day from PohPoh, then another round of steam sterilizing. PohPoh will usually wash with the cleanser we provide and pass to us using the same container we gave in the morning. Once sterilize and cool down; Mummy will remove from sterilizer and air dry but with cover to avoid unwanted creatures like lizards and cockroaches (Thanks PaPa for the idea to use Food Cover).

  • Find time to check which storage bags to thaw for tomorrow using my messy recording sheets then Mummy will sit down and start hunting for the bags in the freezer. Yar, the freezer is at the bottom. Once found all the storage bags soak in water and keep in the fridge for thawing. Usually at midnight, Mummy will check and if semi frozen, then transfer all into bottles to save time on the next day morning. If not, then got to do the next morning.
  • If PaPa around he will help to get Jeriel ready for bed and Mummy will make milk for him to drink before PaPa help him to bath. Now, Jeriel learn to take his own pajama and change himself. If PaPa got class or not around, then Mummy will have to take over.
  • In between, Mummy has to stop and feed Ariel then continue after feeding.
  • If Jeriel got homework, then PaPa will guide him if he is around. If not, then Mummy multitasks.
  • After Jeriel in the bed, time for Mummy to change Ariel diaper which is usually much later. Mummy will prepare the cloth diaper on the bed and PaPa will help to change Ariel.
Hmmm… the list seems to be short but then it is like a mad rush for Mummy every day to make sure all is done. Hope didn’t miss anything. Initially, Mummy was overwhelmed with things to do but now it is like a normal busy routine – in short like robot.

That’s the normal routine with PaPa’s help and usually Mummy will end up sleeping after midnight.

So, imagine last week when PaPa was not around for one whole week and Mummy was sick with cold, cough plus fever. Hardly get enough rest and that’s why till now, Mummy hasn’t fully 100% recovered. The worst was when Mummy got headache and body ache due to fever.

However, when Mummy sees Jeriel and Ariel smiling and happy, it is worth the sacrifice. Mummy believes all Mummies will also do the same thing for their beloved one right?

Talk about this, at one time, I forgot to pack my pump to office. I had to rush back to get it. Fortunately my house is near my office.

Hi Chanel, wheeew! I already feel tired read at what you do...guess a mummy's work is never done, huh?
But being a mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in any field, since the payment is pure love.
Guess the grandparents love having to dote on the kids too, as all grandparents are.

You stay easy and keep well, best regards, lee.

Wow, the list don't look any simple. It's really a mad rush and so much to do.

Do we really have to thaw EBM? I don't thaw EBM overnight but only transfer it from freezer to fridge before going to work and that's 2 hours before my baby wakes up. And I also used electrical warmer too.

most of the thing we manage ourselves. Try to avoid burden my parents...

Anggie's Journal
you also...because you manage everything yourself without maid and can do a lot of things some more...

LittleLamb
thanks for the motivation...

huisia
aiyo...I think other mummies also busy or even busier...

little prince's mummy
har har like robot liau...

Julie
because my EBM cannot store in container, no space. Need to use storage bags and all in different oz, so need to thaw and transfer to bottle then only pour out as needed to warm. If store in bottles or container then should be ok, can just put the whole bottle into warmer...

The scariest bit about bf is the endless rounds of pumping, washing, sterilising, freezing and thawing! I gather from your post you have different pumps for home and office?
