Part 2a : AL’s Breastmilk conquering the freezers …

Remember the messiness of managing the frozen milk in the previous post?

How Mummy managed it?

Besides the file, Mummy keep another log book to manage which storage bags will go to which ziplock bags and also which to use first FIFO (First In First Out).
Mummy will do this once every 2 weeks when Mummy exchanges the EBM between our freezer and Sam Yee's freezer. Sam Yee freezers will have 7 ziplock bags with each ziplock bags contains two days (based on pumping day) of frozen EBM. Each day there will be 6 bags of storage bags because Mummy will usually pump 3x daily, so total will be 3pumping x 2 breast = 6 storage bags. Once Mummy gets the EBM from Sam Yee's freezer then Mummy will start to pack into individual ziplock bags by total of about 20oz. This is to make thawing easier on daily basis because Mummy will just need to take one ziplock bag to thaw as each ziplock bags are being labeled already.

Now.... Help….both Sam Yee and our freezers are full. Mummy is having headache trying to squeeze all the frozen milk into the biggest compartment in our freezer. Yes, our own food are now located in the small compartment. This week is a really disaster because some of the EBM has to be placed on the small compartment with the rest of the frozen food (like chicken, ice-cream, etc..). All the frozen food is packed in the air tight Tupperware container to keep the freezer clean and also to keep the food fresh.

Mummy has not choice but to write an email to Dr Koe for SOS. Still waiting reply from her...

Mummy may have no choice but to throw some of the frozen EBM away….which Mummy is very very RELUCTANT and SAD.

HELP !!!!!!

Maybe rent a freezer for your EBM. :P

This is always a *good* problem to have...hehe...what about using some of the bm to feed Jeriel too? Or using it in a milk bath for Ariel?
I never used the system you used (i.e. logbook). I just use lil stickers as labels :)

maybe you can donate them, you can try to call some local hospitals, as i know some hospitals do want bm for those premature babies.

Ya... can use to bath the baby or yourself too! The lactation consultatn I know in penang said it's ok to do that provided you got overload BM. So envy and at the same time salute your hardwork and persistentcy to pump milk daily.

Hi Chanel. I really envy you. Have the same nipple problem as you do. Mine is a mush worse problem because I have PCOS (polysystic Ovary Syndrome) so I will always have Chronic Low Milk Supply.

I agree with Huisia. Instead of throwing the EBM away, donate them to any Special Care Neonatal Ward for Prem and Problematic Babies . They encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies. If babies cannot suck, EBM is the next best thing.
