Part 2b: Solution to stop Freezer Overload

Follow-up from this post, Mummy got reply from Dr Koe.

Her advice was to cut down Mummy’s pumping session for time being. Mummy could add back the session later if need to.

Actually, Mummy would not need to add the session later because by end of Jan2009 Ariel would be taking solid food.

So, what is Mummy’s plan?

Officially today 15 Dec 2008, Mummy stopped the morning pumping. So, Mummy had to bear the full breast for some time. Mummy’s pumping session would be cut from 3x to 2x.

Mummy would usually only pump on weekdays which meant no pumping during weekend and also holidays. During weekend and holidays, Mummy would direct feed Ariel, so no need to pump. If Mummy was pumping during weekend and holidays then Mummy would have trouble with freezer space much earlier. If Mummy faced bad engorgement during weekend and holidays, Mummy would just pump out a bit to ease but these milk would end up being throw into the sink. Yes, very ‘sayang’, right?

So, now Mummy plans to pump only 2x (afternoon and evening). As for evening, if Mummy can go back on time and early, then Mummy will not pump, but just direct feed Ariel. This means that on that day, Mummy will only pump once. How about if there is any extra thawed EBM? Well, if there 4oz and less, then may just throw it away. Yes, very ‘sayang, again, right? What to do? Jeriel also refused to drink because he is already big boy and can differentiate the taste between BM and Formula.

Up to last week, Mummy got about 800 oz EBM in freezer. Mummy did a fast calculation that Ariel would have enough BM will Feb09 (after deducting all the holidays and weekends). This hadn’t included what Mummy going to pump for this week till Feb09. So, with the introduction of solid in late Jan09, Ariel should have sufficient EBM. Mummy hoped that Mummy’s calculation would be correct and Mummy would not need to increase the pumping session from 2x back to 3x later.

Freezer for rent…anyone know where Mummy can rent freezer?

Hope this plan works…….Pray hard……

Why don't you defroze some and mix them in Jeriel's drink? Or ask around if any BFG mum might want some?

From the clean way you store the EBM, I think some Mums will not mind...

HHmm...too much EBM also problem..no EBM also worries. But it's always good to have more than not enough. :)

kittyCat
tried to mix with his formula and even yakult..even as little as 1/2 oz also Jeriel can detect the BM...

elaine
which is true..another different set of heandache hi hi...

littlelamb
no no..I am not stopping...only reducing the pumping to release space in freezer and since Ariel will start solid soon, she will not consume sooo much milk..

but if you cut 3x to 2x, then will your milk getting lesser??

I still direct feed her weekend and holidays..so far almost 1 week pump 2x still ok. Dr Koe said to increase another 1 pumping session later is not that tough..but then I dont think I need to as Ariel will be taking solid soon...

laundryamah
freshly pump milk and thawed frozen milk , both different taste. Even with just 1/2 oz of BM to his formula also he can detect...the taste

Martini
tried that also...fail...

Mummy to QiQi
i think cutting pumping from 3x to 2x will work kua....

MamaJo
I am soo blessed to have friends like you...a few blogger also offer their freezer but no time to drive lor....

If there's a thing called bm mgt, I'm sure u'd be a great consultant. :D Hope cutting down ur pumping session will solve ur storing prob.

Wow! You got overload BM and so sayang to throw them away...I'm still reluctant to introduce bottle for my boy yet... lazy to pump and no space like you. I think if I work harder in pumping I will get more BM but storing is the main problem. So, I still direct feed but really got to decide when I want to return work and start the pumping session...

Wow... so much EBM... envy lah... cos my kids seldom have EBM because Mummy dont produce much

Wow...It is a lot. My EBM has dropped drastically eversince Charlotte started with solid. I've stopped Keith;s intake of BM as well coz' worried not enough for Charlotte. So far, after taking prolactin tablets and urut from the bidan, milk supply up again and I manage to store back for Charlotte. It is easier for me to pump and froze it when I am at hope coz' I can pump all the balance BM after Charlotte's direct feeding.
