JL refused to go to kindergarten

Last Tuesday (27 Feb 2007) JL refused to go to his kindergarten. Maybe he was sleepy so we let him skip his kindergarten. Then during lunch time, PaPa got a phone call from JL’s teacher informing that JL bit a boy in the kindergarten the day before during mealtime. PaPa asked whether the teacher knew why JL bit the boy and she was not sure. Wow, a teacher who didn’t know why this happen. We tried to ask JL and he kept saying the boy disturbs the girl, so he bit the boy.

The following day, JL refused to go to kindergarten again until Thursday. On Thursday, PaPa went to kindergarten to check out how the teacher handled this problem. The teacher didn’t do anything by just pushing the boys apart. The headmistress said it was a small matter and she added that it was good thing JL didn’t go to kindergarten on Tuesday because the boy’s parents came to kindergarten looking for JL. We got shock with her answer. Why the parents want to see JL, they should see either the teacher or us.

On Friday, PaPa followed JL to kindergarten by following behind the bus. He was reluctant to see his PaPa went off during lessons time but he was such a good boy knowing his PaPa need to go to work. Nanny said he was ok when he came back home.

On the following Monday (5 March 2007), again he refused to go. So, PaPa followed him on Tuesday (6 March 2007). He showed his pity and sad face when PaPa wanted to go to work. Sigh………

I asked my mother who has 20 years of experience in running kindergarten and handling kids. She said most probably JL got frighten in his kindergarten. My mother said that all kids are different. JL’s teacher in Church Nursery has no problem with JL (after almost 3 years). They realized that he tends to act more mature than his age so he needs to know the reason on things which we do to him. After getting bits and pieces of story, here is the story (which I think).

This boy has been going around disturbing other kids in the class. Just that day, he decided to disturb JL during mealtime. JL got irritated that he bit the boy. Then the teacher just separated both of them abruptly which caused a shock to JL. Then nobody talk to JL immediately after the incident. The next day onward, JL refused to go kindergarten.

JL loves going to kindergarten but this incident has caused him to hate this kindergarten. When PaPa followed him to kindergarten, he was enjoying himself with the activities but something was still bothering him that he is scared to go to the kindergarten by himself.
He has no problem with Church Nursery which he has been attending since he was less than 1 year old.

We may need to burn a few months’ fees (we paid ½ year fees after seeing JL doing ok for almost 1 month) and hunt another kindergarten for him for next year.

fully understand ur feeling, coz that is what happen to Jona last year. This year, with new kindy and only 6 kids in year 4, Jona really learn lots of stuff (even tho, still naughty sometimes)..but, overall, I'm happy...
Yeah, the boy parent should ask explaination from teacher, not Jeriel...plus, I think it is quite common for kids to bite or hit friend (during adjusting period - where parent/teacher role came in mah)...imagine if reverse, would the boy parent come to school and said sorry to that boy??!! eeeiii...
