Putrajaya Hot Air Balloon Trip (17 & 20 March 2011)

We were there on the first day evening (Thursday, 17Mar2011) hopping to catch the 6pm hot air balloon. The kids were excited bringing along their raincoat and boots (like Pua Chu Kang but in blue instead of yellow). The raincoat was too big for AL.

We arrived there about 4plus pm and Sharon also arrived about the same time. Together with the kids, we went walking around exploring the place while waiting for 6pm. It started to drizzle about 545pm. PaPa went to the car to take umbrella and the kids’ raincoat. We were sitting down the area near where the hot balloons were supposed to be released with our umbrellas. All of a sudden, a staff was walking along the path asking everyone to get shelter because a heavy thunderstorm was on the way and it was just 5 minutes before 6pm. The announcement said that the hot balloon would be postponed to 8pm.

We couldn’t wait till 8pm because we had to go for our family prayer meeting that night. So we decided to walk back to the car. It drizzled and it turned into heavy thunderstorm in just a split seconds. JL was well protected with his raincoat and boots. We decided to wrap AL with the oversized raincoat. I was carrying AL with PaPa carrying a big golf umbrella. However, the rain was so strong that by the time we arrive our car, we were drenched from top to toe. Sharon and her 2 kids were also wet. We decided to cancel our dinner together and to go home as everyone needed to take shower to change. On the way home, the kids were hiding themselves in the blanket which we kept in the car. It would be great to hide ourselves in a heated blanket to keep ourselves warm.
JL still wanted to see the hot air balloon. Our weekend was tight with JL’s activities and birthday. So the only slot we had was on the last day where we decided the early morning would be a better option than evening since it usually rained in the evening. We left home just before 6am on Sunday morning with both kids half asleep. We arrived there just before the parking lots were full. Some people had come as early as 4am just to get tickets to ride the hot air balloon.

At last the kids got the chance to see the big hot air balloon. There was also helicopter ride which was too pricey. We bought 2 battery operated bubbles guns for the kids for RM15 each which we found was cheaper than getting from toys r us (which was almost RM50 each).

We let the kids play with the bubbles for a while near the parking lot before we proceed to Alamanda for our breakfast in McD. We did a fast grocery in Carrefour and let the kids walk around toys r us before we went home to rest.

Home Security

Now, regardless whether we are staying in an apartment or landed property, there is always fear on our home security. Home break-in has increased for the past years and everyone is living in fear. There is many type of security being implemented from physical security (e.g. security guards) to remote security. Some people prefer the remote security which can be controlled remotely via notebook and also mobile. Remote security also has additional function which help to alert the home owner if there any water leaking and power failure. It all depends what each individual needs and how much budget you have.

Cleansing the internal organs

After having to go through stomach bacteria, I have been exploring for ways to minimize the return of the bacteria because more than 90% of patients will get the reoccurrence of the bacteria. Besides stomach, other parts of internal body also need to go through cleansing with some suggestions to use colonetix to cleanse colon. One of my colleagues tried aloe vera and yogurt which she takes daily and it help to minimize her heart burn from getting worst. Now she is feeling much better without having to go through her 2nd round of stomach bacteria treatment. I hope this will work on me…

Remembering KongKong’s Parents

KongKong went to Batu Gajah with his brother and sister for a day trip to his parents’ graveyard this morning. It had been many years since the last time we visited the cemetery. It used to be a yearly routine to gather to visit the cemetery during ‘Cheng Beng’ time where family would gather (besides Chinese New Year) when we were young.

My grandfather passed away long time even before KongKong and PohPoh knew each other. My youngest sister didn’t even have the chance to meet our grandmother when she passed away. My grandmother passed away when I was still very young (before 6 years old) and was too young to help to plan a funeral. However, I remembered how she loved me a lot being the first granddaughter. She was sick and unable to carry me. She took the trouble to buy a pram, waiting for me at the airport and happily pushing me in the pram at the whole housing area showing proudly her granddaughter. She had no preference over boys than girls despite coming from China which was a surprise. She told my mother that as long as my mother and baby are healthy, that was the most important thing. I wish she was still alive to see my kids.

I hope to make a trip to the cemetery one day bringing JL and AL to see their great-grandparents.

Everything go up but not salary…how to manage?

There is a discussion how things are going up like rocket...Imagine chicken is about RM8-9 per kg!!! I am having trouble managing family expenses and try my very best to avoid having to take cash advance payday loan. So far, we are still surviving but almost no savings. When we can save a bit, it will end up being used on the other months when the expense goes up. We end up delaying our car purchase and not sure how we can commit to get any landed property (or bigger home) as property price is getting to high too… Help me…

New Watch for us…

During my last trip to Dubai, I got PaPa and I Tissot watch. We both had our first branded watch back in 2003 after our wedding. Our first pair (which was also Tissot) cost us less than RM 1000 which we bought in Changi Airport.

When I was going to Dubai, PaPa asked me to check out if we can get another pair for ourselves. I wanted to get a different brand for ourselves but other brand was way too expensive. Prices had gone up and our budget burst.

I ended up buying the same model which was slightly above our budget. Instead of buying from Dubai Airport, I ended up buying from KLIA on the way back because it was cheaper. The pair of watch was almost RM 1300 (after 30%). The new pair was the same model as our old one with the two main differences

• Titanium Strap (which was lighter)
• Black screen (our previous one was white).

We preferred simpler design so that it can be worn either business or casual. So, my manager and I didn’t shop at Dubai because the things were not that cheap (besides having no time). My friend, who would be going to LA next month for duty travel, was already getting a whole long list of shopping things to get for friends and family, from clothes like apple bottom, Oash Kosh and branded handbags especially Coach. I hope she would not get charge for excess baggage when she came back from LA.

PaPa’s new notebook

After many years, at last PaPa’s notebook died. He tried to repair but to not result. He brought his notebook to the expert and found that it was the motherboard that spoilt. It was not worth the price to repair.
Yesterday, PaPa went to get himself a new notebook because he needed one urgently for his work.  He noticed quite a lot of other brands and many technology gadgets for education or another name mimio.
It was my first time hearing the word mimio. Mimio is a brand name of a line of technology products with the main aim for the education market.
I hope PaPa enjoy his new notebook purchased.

JL's 7th Birthday

Last Saturday 19Mar was JL’s birthday. This was the first year he would not be having so many cakes like the previous years. We discussed with him that from now onward, he would only have 1 cake. Usually he would have 3 cakes for family, kindy and church. However, it is difficult to bring cake to his primary school and also his children church as it involved more kids. He was agreeable and he also said AL would still have 3 cakes like he used to. We were glad that he was big enough to understand.

We decided to order Swensen’s Ice-Cream Cake for him. JL chose Chocolate BlackForest. He wanted jelly cake but PaPa said he would make one jelly just for him. We let him choose the flavor of the jelly he wanted.

He wanted a bicycle as his previous bicycle was too small. AL was happily taking over the bicycle. Coincidently, my friend was on duty travel to Taipei and was willing to bring back a bicycle for JL. I didn’t know that bicycle in Taiwan was cheap until PaPa informed me. My friend landed in KLIA at noon just one day before his actual birthday. PaPa and I went to KLIA to collect and hide at Sam Yee’s apartment before we fetched the kids back home from their grandparents’ apartment. Sam Yee Cheong was at home waiting for us to bring the bicycle to hide.

JL was busy on his birthday where he attended his Tae-KwonDo in the morning and afternoon he went for his BeyBlade Competition in the Curve (which he made everyone proud of his achievement… another post to share…). After the competition, we went to evening church service. We had a simple dinner in Kenny Rogers and collected the Ice-Cream Cake. Sam Yee and Sam Yee Cheong helped us to buy Haji Samuri Sate.

KongKong, PohPoh, MahMah, Aunty PohPoh, Sam Yee and Sam Yee Cheong gathered at our apartment for supper birthday. Yi Yee couldn’t make it as she was attending a wedding. Tai Pak and whole family were in Cameron Highlands. JL was so happy opening his presents that he hardly ate his birthday cake. The highlight of the presents was his GIANT and NERF. Sam Yee and Sam Yee Cheong gave me a big NERF gun. Besides that, he also got a lot of wonderful gifts and angpau from his grandparents.

He was busy fixing his GIANT with PaPa and NERF with Sam Yee Cheong.

AL also had presents even though it was not her birthday. While JL was posing with his new GIANT, AL also didn’t want to miss posing with her KorKor’s small bicycle.

However, we still owe him Sakae Sushi makan just four of us…this weekend….

Green Car

With our earth slowly deteriorating, people are getting more and more aware about saving the world. There is a lot of discussion on electric car being a green car. I wonder if the electric car insurance is more expensive or cheaper than the petrol car insurance. There is not many model of electric car to choose. Besides that, it is not affordable too. With the petrol price going up and petrol stock decreasing, I hope more companies will produce more affordable green car.

Duty Travel -- Dubai 24-26Feb2011

It was last minute I got selected to go for a workshop in Dubai. The workshop was sponsored by one of our competitor (Company E) for knowledge sharing purpose. My company would just have to pay for air tickets and allowance.

It was my first time going to Dubai and my first time going to the Middle East. However going on duty travel was not a fun thing because it was not a holiday. For those who travel on duty travel would understand what I mean.

My manager and I were selected to join the workshop. Our Department Head would take the same flight with us to join the Excom Meeting and back the following day. Our Senior Manager (team head) would fly into Dubai one day later to be one of the speakers for the workshop and would go back on the same flight as ours. So, we were flying into Dubai with our Department Head and back to Malaysia with our Senior Manager.

We took noon flight on 24Feb2011 and landed there late evening in Dubai. The flight took off 1 hour late from KLIA due to technical issue and we had almost 1 hour transit in the airplane at Karachi. Upon landing Dubai airport, it was a long walk to the immigration where we ended up queuing for almost 45 minutes just to get our passport stamped. By the time we check-in the hotel, it was too late and we were tired. We ended up only taking sandwiches in the hotel. The hotel which was booked by Company E was just opposite the airport. Yes, we stayed nearby to the airport and not in the city. This was how close the hotel was located…

The next day, we had breakfast in the hotel and a bus fetched all the participants to the Company E training centre (or another word, it was actually known as college). It was a one whole day session of sharing from other companies on the title “Continuous Monitoring”. I was amazed how small I was seeing other participants who were majority minimum managers and above. Some was even the Head of Department.

After workshop, we were sent back to the hotel. Our Senior Manager just landed and requested us to wait for him. My Manager and I were just ‘lepaking’ around the hotel and even taking our nap. Yes, we were still tired over our flight the day before with time difference of 4 hours. We took a free shuttle to the airport where we took train to the town. It was so late but we managed to see Burj Al Khalifa at night.

Than we walked to Dubai Mall to see the Giant Aquarium and had our late dinner at the food court. We were admiring all the expensive cars and all the expensive shops in the mall. The people there was having a good life enjoying having ‘tea tarik’ session in an expensive café.

On Saturday, it was the last day of the workshop session. We from Malaysia were the first to leave that we need to check out from the hotel in the morning. We pulled our luggage to the workshop. We had to leave after the brainstorming session and missed the brainstorming sharing session. It was a big rush and our Senior Manager was not happy with the arrangement but what to do…Cut cost… because our company would need to absorb the extra night stay for the hotel and extra allowance if we were to stay another night.

The return flight was a bigger airplane and yes, directs flight with no transit. We ended up doing our shopping in the airport. I managed to get a t-shirt for JL and AL with 3D Camel sewn on the t-shirt. JL was white color (I couldn’t find green for him) and AL had pink color.

We landed at KLIA on Sunday morning about 6plus am. Our Senior Manager went home while my Manager and I went to watch shop. I did my survey before I went and made comparison with Dubai Airport and found a better deal in KLIA (surprise leh…) that would be another post to write about…

I went home to zzzzzz and went for lunch with my grandmother from Alor Setar. I was so sleepy both journey from home and back to home for lunch. The journey was tiring and rushing. It took some time to adjust back my body clock.
The best experience I had from this trip is I made friends with all the competitors who could be useful to get the best practices and knowledge sharing. I distributed my business cards to everyone before I left for airport on the 2nd day.

Wish I had time to view more of Dubai….but just didn’t make it…

JL’s Surprise Birthday Gift

JL would be 7 on 19March201. My friend was great to assist to bring back JL’s surprise birthday gift which was known as ‘GIANT’ by JL.

My friend landed on 18March2011 at KLIA while PaPa and I went to airport to collect the present. Upon collecting, we went to Sam Yee’s apartment to hide the present.

Guess what is it? I know some of you already knew what is ‘GIANT’… Would load the photos of JL’s birthday on the next post…

Phases of life…

We face different phases of life. From the time we were in our mother’s womb till the last phase when we passed away. It sound scary but then this is the truth that we need to face eventually. Everyone has to go through all these phases.

Even insurance industry has keep up to our different phases of life by offering different type of insurance from baby in the womb insurance to senior life insurance. Nowadays, insurance products are available from low cost insurance to premium cost insurance to accommodate different people’s need. There is even a product called Burial Insurance.

We should face each phase of life with a positive heart and mind as we grow older gracefully. It is easy to say than to do it but at least we try to do it.

Friends, treasure every moment of our lives with our loved ones because we will not know what is going to happen the following day. Always have the forgiving heart because nobody is perfect including ourselves.

Food to school for JL...02 March 2011

I attended a workshop last two weeks ago and got some tips on preparing food for JL. I modify by using Red Rice with Tuna fillings. The shape turned out ok but it breaks easily. Last weekend, we went and bought sushi rice, hopefully this week it would turn well…

AL also didn’t want to be left out and requested me to do for her too. So I prepared one for AL and 3 for JL on 2nd March 2011. I still have a lot to learn in making food for JL and the challenging part was to prepare food in the morning which would last till 3+pm for his break time. For this, JL would keep in the 'Anching' Centre fridge in the morning and I would give him 2 ice blocks to put in the freezer which he would pack together in his coolant bag before going to his afternoon school.
We have been working with JL on weekend to plan his whole week meal… I am still learning and learning from everyone…

“Kids Eat Right with Naturel Bento" Workshop – 22Feb2011

Early January, I got a phone call asking if I am interested to attend “Kids Eat Right with Naturel Bento" Workshop on 22 February 2011 (Tuesday) proudly organized by Naturel. This workshop was to encourage mothers to help their children eat right even when the children are away from home. It was a just a great the right time when I was trying my best to prepare for JL healthy food to bring to his school hassle free. I immediately replied and said why not since it is free workshop. I applied my leave and got my leave approved.

Just a few days before the actual day, I found that Anggie and Ruth would be there too. It was great to know we would be meeting in this workshop. I got to know Anggie’s blogger friend Alice who brought her little princess to the workshop too. We gathered at the Curve on early morning as we need to car poll to Bayan Indah Culinary Retreat at Sg Penchala. The place was so green and calm, away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. It was a great short break which I need away from office stress.

The whole event started with a briefing from Ms Tania Lee, the Brand Manager for Naturel with a bring-home message of “The choice of a healthier lifestyle is in our hands”. Naturel cooking oil is made from 100% pure and natural ingredients.

Naturel Blend Cooking Oil is a blend of canola and sunflower seed oils. It provides a balanced ratio of Omega 3 and Omega 6 and is cholesterol-free, thus making it the healthy cooking oil in preparing our daily meals. Omega 3 and Omega 6 are Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) which cannot be produced by our bodies and could only be obtained from food. It is important for normal growth in children plus in aiding regular cardiovascular and neurogical functions. Besides being cholesterol-free, it has monounsaturates which help to reduce bad cholesterol in the body. Best of all this oil is suitable for vegetarians. Other products under the Naturel group:
Naturel Canola Cooking Oil
Naturel Sunflower Cooking Oil
Naturel Pure Olive Oil
Naturel Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Naturel Reduced Salt Margarine
Naturel Reduced Fat Spread
Naturel Fat Spread With Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The first session was with Indra Balaratnam, the Consultant Dietitian on Healthy Eating. She taught us the practical way of being healthy for the whole family, making me feeling much better and the urge to do better. I learnt a lot of new things plus also getting confirmation on what I had learnt from my own personal reading. She gave us tips on managing the portion stress free. If I would to write all her sharing, it would be a long thesis. Overall, it was worth the time off taken to listen to this. In summary,
1. Never too late to start cultivating good healthy eating because it would be their long life skill
2. We as parents should show the examples (why not since we also should be eating healthily too)
3. The key to eating right is to practice balance, moderation and variety.

• Eat a variety of food by maintaining the portion according to the food pyramid
• Eat a variety of different colors of vegetables.
• An optimum meal serving (variety, nutrition and portion sizes) is difficult to achieve on a daily basis, however, we can look after children’s nutrition intake over a certain period (e.g. a week or a few days)

I am so glad that both JL and AL had no problem with vegetables and we had been talking to them about food. Both of them knew which food is healthy and which is unhealthy. We discussed with them about what to have for meals and get them involved when we go for our grocery shopping. JL would even discuss with us his whole week meal to bring to his school during his break time. I was amazed with the food that he had listed out to have for the week in school.
Back to the workshop, after an interesting talk by Indra, we had a great session with Rohani Jelani the owner of Bayan Indah. Being an experienced mother who had two grown up kids, everyone took opportunity to learn as much as we can and both her kids are eating healthy on their own. Rohani shared that how her kids find eating home-cooked food was more appealing than eating outside food. Both her kids loved bring food from home to school during break time. We had hands-on session and she shared to us simple recipes to assist us in helping the kids to eat right through a healthy and balanced meal.

Everyone was divided into 2 Groups:

Group 1
• Baked Doughnuts
• Prawn & Spring Onion Omelette with Rice Cakes
Group 2
• Rainbow cake
• Pasta bows with chicken & tofu patties

We worked in a pair. I was assigned to work with a lady from local Chinese newspaper to execute Group 1 recipes. Anggie and Ruth were paired up to prepare Group 2 Recipes. All four of us worked at the same workstations so that we can exchange view on Group 1 and Group 2 Recipes.

Initially I was nervous upon hearing the recipes which I need to prepare especially baking because I never bake before plus I did not even own an oven. It was indeed a new experience and eye opening for me. Stepping into a fully equipped kitchen was a dream for me having to be able to work on well designed kitchen including an island and built-in oven. It has always been my dream to own a kitchen with an island workspace and fully equipped yet spacious and airy.
Rohani gave tips on making nicely shaped doughnuts and making a perfect omelette with prawn filling. She shared a lot of great tips how we can modify the current recipes by changing the filling in the omelette and also in the rice cakes. The filling for the omelette and rice cakes could also be inter-change. I also get tips of how to prepare the rice cakes for JL if I need to prepare ahead but consume only at 3+pm since he was in afternoon class.

The doughnuts were soft and the omelette was nice. Of course, the interesting rice cake which caught JL’s eye when I brought back home later.

I also got the opportunity to see how Anggie and Ruth prepared the food. The cake was soft and moist. The patties were delicious and one would not even notice that there was tofu inside the patties.

The recipes were not as difficult as I thought initially. Rohani made it simple for us. So, cooking and preparing healthy food for family was not that complicated.

After cooking and preparing, we packed in Rubbermaid containers. We had our group photo session and then it was lunch time, yes healthy lunch. Rohani and her team prepared the whole range of healthy buffet lunch all using Naturel Cooking oil and Naturel Olive Oil. We were also provided with a book of recipes for the food prepared so that we could cook for our family too.

Before going home, we each got 3 goodies bags – one with 4 containers of the food we prepared, one (sponsored by Naturel with 1 bottle of Naturel Cooking Oil, 1 bottle of Naturel Olive oil, rice cake mould with recipes books and last but not least was a big bag of different sizes of Rubbermaid Containers .

It was a great workshop and I am sure everyone not only enjoy themselves but also went home with a great knowledge and understanding plus inspiration on how to prepare simple and healthy food for the family. Thanks to all the sponsors and hope for more to come…

This has also inspired everyone to be a part of Join the Naturel Living and embarked on a healthier, holistic lifestyle. The Join the Naturel Living (JTNL) campaign is a long-term campaign by Naturel to encourage Malaysians to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle which covers the three pillars - Eat Right, Keep Fit and Beat Stress.

From breastfeeding to cloth diapering and now more into healthy food…what would be my next learning focus? Life is a journey with continuous non-stop learning experience…

At last…it came off…

For those who remember this post….

The black nail decided to come off last nite. It was dangling. I slowly turn and turn and turn and it dropped off without any pain. Underneath I could see new nail begin to grow which was the reason the old one dropped off easily. AL was so concerned that she kept asking me what happen. She had been asking me what happen to my toe nail which turned black and said ‘pain pain?’

The shoe I got before duty travel, well now I have extra pair of black big heel shoes to wear to office...

Note : Sorry for the blur blur photo...
